OneStream’s new ESG solution adds planning to reporting
by Tim Vrijburg
Many organizations already use OneStream as the foundation for financial consolidation, reporting, and planning. With mandatory ESG reporting under CSRD now approaching for many organizations, it makes sense to look at how sustainability reporting and planning fits into that same environment. OneStream’s latest version of its ESG solution takes a large step in that direction, with many features added compared to the previous version.

From reporting to an ESG performance management solution
The earlier version mainly focused on collecting data and preparing disclosures. Useful for compliance, but relatively limited if you wanted to connect sustainability to broader planning and performance processes. The latest release moves well beyond that.
This version of OneStream’s ESG solution is fully embedded in the finance platform. ESG data now connects directly with reporting, planning, forecasting, and performance management. That creates a very different starting point: sustainability reporting no longer sits next to finance but becomes part of the same decision-making process.
More than ESG compliance reporting
For many organizations, ESG regulations such as the European CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) drive the wish to improve ESG reporting. But the updated solution is built for more than compliance alone.
This version adds forecasting, scenario modeling, Scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon accounting, and broader workflow support. These additional features open the door to a more mature ESG process, combining reporting where your organization stands today with modeling how targets can be reached over time. That matters because ESG requirements increasingly move beyond historical disclosure. Management teams want to understand what future sustainability choices mean for performance, targets, and business outcomes. For example, instead of reporting emissions after period close, you can now model multiple emission reduction scenarios and assess future impact alongside financial forecasts.
ESG as part of your existing OneStream platform
As the solution becomes part of the existing OneStream platform, there is no need to introduce a separate ESG application. This has several benefits. Firstly, it reduces complexity in maintenance, governance, and long-term manageability. Secondly, it’s familiar to key users in your organization. Your finance team already knows the platform, even if ESG-specific input screens and import functionality differ from standard financial processes.
Technical setup creates flexibility
The solution does require technical expertise to configure well. ESG structures often depend on detailed configuration, including cube design and data definitions.
That may sound demanding, but it also explains where the solution’s power becomes evident. The setup allows you to capture detailed specifications, such as reporting emissions by location, transport category, or other operational dimensions. This level of detail supports both external reporting and internal steering.
The next step on the roadmap
OneStream’s ESG roadmap continues to evolve. Future functionality is expected to support ESG target setting, such as team diversity or emission reduction, and planning actions needed to achieve them.
That makes the ESG solution increasingly relevant for organizations that want to manage sustainability as part of performance management, not just reporting.
