Support for Tableau

Tableau has been recognized as a leader for the sixth consecutive year in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant of BI & Analytics. It is one of the most intuitive BI tools in the market today, enabling users throughout your company to gain valuable data-driven insights.

Tableau Software is an interactive data visualization software company that focuses on business intelligence. The American company was founded in 2003 and was acquired by Salesforce in 2019.

How do we help you with the support and hosting of your Tableau application?

What is essential in supporting your Tableau application?

One of the strengths of Tableau is its user-friendliness. Tableau is a low-code BI tool with intuitive drag-and-drop functionalities. This makes the tool usable by a large audience within your company, from end-user to analyst to developer.

A second advantage of using Tableau is the possibility of working with one version of the truth for your different business processes. In practice, we see that involving so many users from various departments requires the proper support to create and maintain that one version of the truth.

Our support specialists know how to organize this. We know what it takes to manage a structured support approach. Also, we often set up a data warehouse to structure the data and create one data source for the different reports and dashboards.

Integration of BI and EPM

Increasingly, the fields of BI and EPM are merging. This development demands knowledge of both frontend tools such as Tableau and the applications you’d like Tableau to connect with, such as SAP BPC. Often, this scarce knowledge is expensive and not needed every time, but only occasionally. However, you do want to be able to rely on expert support when needed.

Our support experts have in-depth knowledge of both frontend and backend BI tools and your business processes, which are needed for effective and efficient support of your BI tools. In our unique support model, you have the flexibility to scale up and down depending on the needs of your team.

Setting up the prep flow for Tableau

An example of backend support is setting up the prep flow for you. The prep flow is the workflow that maps the source data, such as the data retrieved from SAP BPC or any other EPM source, to the source data table Tableau uses for the dashboarding.

Another example is configuring the backup functionality, both for Tableau and the Tableau prep application.  Of course, you can use the Tableau backups as described in their admin guide. However, by organizing a backup outside of Tableau, for example, via scripting on your server, you can easily access and recover everything if an issue arises.

Other areas in the support of Tableau we help you with are:

  • Maintenance scripts
  • Version upgrades
  • Disaster recovery plans
  • Automation of the cleanup of old caching files
  • Tuning of the prep flow
  • Maintenance and monthly refresh of dashboarding, such as refreshing of source data and point of view
